Every week I hear or read about a girl raped in some remote part of the country. Which is followed by people protesting in front of the parliament house or any other place for justice. After few days, the government, under political pressure, will make promises or commitments to the country which are a complete hokum.
Talking about a recent incident, a 5 year old girl was raped in New Delhi by a somewhat 22 year old guy.
The sentence itself is horrifying! Touch-wood the girl is out of danger now. This is just a case that has been reported. There are numerous other cases of sexual harassment which aren't even brought up due to some orthodox mentality of people.
The question ahead of us is 'WHY?'
The answer is sex-education. Yes.
Remember last time you were watching TV with your family and just then a 'condom' commercial poped up and the whole family starts searching for the remote control ; embarrassed.
Unlike west, sex is a totally alien thing for Indians of a certain age. Our culture doesn't allow us to engage coitus until marriage which is ethically perfect. But these rules were made long ago and scenario has drastically changed. Our parents not discussing the matters of sex openly has created a feeling of inquisitiveness wiz. making children as small as 6 or 7 watch porn videos on worlds free and open library- INTERNET.
A small child, today, watching porn at the age of 6 or 7, may become a rapist of tomorrow. Such is the level of desperation.!
Government censoring these sites or facebook is never gonna help! Parents have to step in, sit with their children and have an open discussion about this. They need to teach their children to respect women. Teach them if they like a girl, confront her, not rape! After all, REAL MEN DON'T RAPE.
I myself don't remember my parents talking to me on such topics. Never have they asked me if i like a someone. They should, as parenting is not only about making your child an engineer or an MBA. Its also about making them good human beings.
That's all i'd like to say. SEX EDUCATION- THE ONLY SOLUTION
Let's spread the word.
